I am Sid from India. I am a computer instructor and a website consultant by profession. Had always a fascination for LEDs, but after education (I did my majors in Poltics which is a humanities subject, in 1990) I never got a chance to pursue the hobby.

Years back I got a Raspberry PI but it was never used except as a computer, though I had got it for doing other projects (those hobby ones). C-19 - though the worst thing that happened to the world in our days, I got a chance to find "Time" for self. I discovered Arduino.

Initially, I did build a couple of LED Cubes and to be honest, I copied those codes without bothering much about what the codes are. And all was good.

Having done the 4x4x4 Cube in Blue, RGB (thanks to the Multiplexing as they call it, I followed up the Charlie Cube from Asher Glick). It was on his webpage that the codes were printed and I read them. And hey, they look like C programming.

And that actually got me hooked up. I read many pages on the official Arduino website and realized the capabilities and it was time to search out for tutorials to learn more. And it was here that I found DroneBotWorkshop on YouTube - tutorials that made sense and I fell in love with the Tutor - His style.

So here I am. A guy who has almost ZERO knowledge of electronics - I only know a few Terms for the Components, How to Solder, How to etch a PCB at home (though not great but kind of workable ones).

Why I am here? - I am here to learn and do expect that the community will be supportive and help me fix the issues or at least point me to the right paths.

Thank you for reading this long post about me, but I did think it would help in some way.

Lastly, Thanks Bill to get me here by doing the "not so interesting task" of creating a user. I know as I too have been on these sides due to my profession.

Looking forward to interacting with the community

Stay Safe,
Regards.

Welcome to the forum Sid. It is in my opinion worth getting a clear understanding of basic electronics if you want to do more than just build circuits like you might paint by numbers instead of actually understanding how they work. You say you are a computer instructor and website consultant does that involve programming?

Hi rootbuilder,

I cannot deny that fact - as I started, there already have been a few incidents and instances where I messed up because I followed those schematics blindly. On one instance when I was about to give up the idea of the 4x4x4 cube, the person whose schematic I was using, helped me fix it. But I do know people today are busy and such help will not be available all the time and I should learn.

So yes, I am doing some reading from Instructables - Getting Started with Electronics. But somewhere I feel that it is not going to be enough. Maybe I will get lucky and find some more worthy stuff once I am done with these lessons. Not to mention, my pace is slower - there is work on the professional side (I work from evening 6pm through 3 or 4 am), there is my 4 year old daughter whom I spend most of the day.

My current profile involves more of Maintenance on WordPress, and occassionally I get a programming task. Ever since the C-19 happened, I do not have any students - I completed the last set of classes online. Now I am trying to find some more who would opt in for online studies - difficult in Indian context at the moment (an probably across the world) because the students are already studying a lot online (their classes, their coaching classes and maybe more).
