Topic starter

Just wanted to introduce myself. I am a microbiologist actually, (3rd year PhD student in Environmental Microbiology in UK). I am very interested in electronics, but have limited experience.

I have previously worked in several engineering jobs as a technician and have some experience with mechanical engineering, fabrication and fluidics. However I never actually properly learnt electronics, and so I am doing just that now with the help of this DroneBotWorkshop, among other sources (almost made it through Make:Electronics books 1 and 2 as well and going through RPi book by Molloy, and also trying to start on Jetson Nano).

Why am I doing this? Well I am interested in making laboratory equipment for biological laboratories. I have experience of fixing a lot of different lab equipment and have a good idea how existing lab equipment works (from simple stirrers to high pressure liquid chromatography and mass spectrometers). And I am full of ideas of what can be made or which problems addressed. But to do that, I need to get a better grasp of electronic components, how they can be used and programmed. So here I am, very grateful to Bill for making excellent educational material, I have learnt a lot so far and keep learning every day watching these videos.

A great Electronics text is "The Art of Electronics" Horowitz and Hill ... you can find it online as a PDF...
