Hello and thank you for the add!  My name is Mark, live in the Atlanta area, work in the electronic security industry as well as a Fire Fighter in my county.  Highly interested in the ESP family for several reasons:  1) Halloween automations  2) Home automation  3) Fire station alerting  4) Grow automation.  I have programmed them using the Arduino platform, Python and through ESPHome for home automations.  Looking forward to seeing how others are using the boards as well as connecting with others to ask / answer questions!

@kozyautomation Hi Mark, welcome to the forum. I too use the esp32 a lot, but right now we have some challenges. You may or may not know Espressif just changed the API and broke a bunch of existing code. Check out the NERDS, if you are am ESP32 fan you will know who that is, if not here is the link https://randomnerdtutorials.com/esp32-migrating-version-2-to-3-arduino/

and here is the ESP link https://docs.espressif.com/projects/arduino-esp32/en/latest/migration_guides/2.x_to_3.0.html

Good luck.

@kozyautomation Hi Mark, I'm in the Atlanta area myself, out by the big rock.  Can you say what county you are a firefighter in?

Welcome to the forum, there is a wealth of information to be found here.

@codecage Hey Steve - Walton County, not far from you really!  Have completed a board for my station alerting project and would REALLY Love some pointers!  I tried to use mostly off the shelf components and ones easily obtained through Amazon, just in case!

Thanks for the welcome - Really enjoying being here so far!

@zander Hi Ron - I was not aware of the changes - Thanks for pointing that out.  I have programmed a lot of my stuff using ESPHome for both my home automations as well as other items.  Guessing they have taken care of the changes to the API!  My next project is to take my station alerting project and recreate it in MicroPython.  I started out with the Arduino IDE, then wanted to do it Python and had issues with porting millis over, then got tied up with ESPHome and yaml.  Got things to work the way I expected them to in both C and ESPHome (which compiles to C) but really want to learn more about Python.  We'll see!

Come on Ron!!  The NERDS!  If you do ANYTHING with ESP you should know the NERDS!!  Just kidding!  Good folks over there with a lot of neat projects for learning!
