I am trying to get a XAIO_ESP32S working. Several years ago I had several ESP32-CAMs hooked up in my shop on Wi-Fi, but then restoring a 1959 Ford Galaxie Skyliner Retractable hardtop took several years of my time. It was worth it because I won top honors including First Place Driver at the 2024 International Ford Retractable Convention. Now I'm back on electronics.

I'm an almost retired farmer in Southern Mn.  I started messing around with Arduino a few years back and have moved to ESP 32s for the most part.  I have made a few projects that are actually useful on the farm.  I use an ESP 32 in a device I call my "Batcher".  It is connected to a fairly large flow meter.  It shows the running total of the gallons that have passed through the flow meter on a 4 digit 7 segment display.  I use this to decide when to stop adding water when I mix up batches of spray for my farm field sprayer.  I expanded the project last year by using ESP NOW to another ESP 32 that is connected to a large 4 digit 7 segment display.  This means I can view the running total from either display.

Another useful project is where I use my IOS and Android devices as remotes.  I use them with my large door openers on my machine shed and shop.  This allows me to control the doors as usual with the 3 button box on the wall or a smartphone/tablet.  Using iPhone works out quite well since I usually have it with me and charged.

I use a website called RemoteXY.  The website helps me create sketches which are loaded on an ESP 32 (or other boards).  In my case, I have the website help me create a screen layout that mimics the UP, DOWN, STOP buttons of a "real" button box.  The screen layout lives in the sketch for the ESP 32 and is transferred to the phone/tablet when the connection to the app is established. The ESP 32 and the IOS or Android device can communicate using Wi-Fi via the internet, soft access point or Bluetooth.  I use a soft access point since I do not have internet access near my buildings.  The range is very acceptable with an external antenna.

Way back in the day, one of my first cousins had a Ford Retractable.  I remember sitting in it at our Grandmother's funeral.

@tedbear Greetings from Decorah, IA. Alexa says you are 117.3 miles by car - that's close. Bev & I have been near Bluffton for 26 years. I graduated from Decorah is 1957. We wanted to live in the country after being in Omaha, NE for 17 years. I closed down my computer consulting business about 20 years ago. I used to put IBM style desktop computers and program them. I had some contract programmers from time to time but I wasn't happy with anyone's work but mine so I stayed small. We bought a 126 acre farm when we moved here and that has worked out well. We cash rented it to the family we bought it from until this year. The 15 year CRP was too good to pass up. I miss the corn & beans since I helped harvest by driving a grain truck for the tenant. This is beautiful country but only fair for grain farmers. I have had a bunch of old cars over the last 40 years. I've downsized now because at 85 I am not much good for restoring. The old car market has gone town the tube - all the old guys are dying and the young ones have no interest. A few years ago I ran into this small computer stuff (Ardunio, etc.) and did play around but I was finishing the 59 Skyliner so forgot everything I knew. My personal website (dunlavy.us) has stuff about me - my life-etc. including cars. I don't like communicating by email since I am a very poor typist. Therefore, if you want to talk, send me an email with your phone and I'll call you - that email address is dave@dunlavy.us .

Nice to hear from you... Dave

@ddave86 Thanks for the reply.  I'm a bit younger than you but not much.  Maybe we'll meet someday.
