I am a recently retired tech-worker from Ottawa. I’ve spent all but my early career in management (resource and project) and am taking this opportunity to get my hands back into the fun stuff. I’ve had to relearn much of the electronics and programming that once used to put bread on the table.
A few years back I bought a Raspberry Pi (Everyone was talking about them. Particularly as a network security attack vector) and I was briefly confounded when my wife asked me what I was going to do with it. After a brief internal conflab, I announced that I would build a robot. It was shortly there after that the dam broke.
Now after Arduino, ARM, ESP8266/32, Python, C++, AI, machine Learning, 3D Printing, and the blessed YouTube, I am frantically on my way to the Maker-verse. I have completed one “robot” that ran from a Arduino Nano, and am deep into the design of a far more elaborate one. ARDVARC - Autonomous Robot Discovering Viable Alternatives for Restructuring Chaos 🙂
Hoping to learn and share learnings on the DroneBot Workshop Forum.

Hi NewburyPi, welcome to the forum!
Sounds like you are a perfect fit for this crowd, I'd love to hear more about ARDVARC. You should create a post about him (or her, or it) in the "Other Robot Projects" area and let us know what exactly your designing.'
I'm just down the road from you in Montreal, was considering heading to Ottawa for the Maker Faire in August. Perhaps we'll meet up.
Enjoy the forum!

+1 keep us posted on ARDVARC.
People, especially me, love build threads with lots of pictures. HOW something was built is interesting to read.
The discussion that come up around WHY you designed or implemented something the way you did are fascinating for us nerds.
Thanks Bill,
I'm looking forward to this years MakerFair, and it would be great to meet up with you. Please let me know when you will be there.

I guess it's a moot point now, the Ottawa Maker Faire has been canceled - just got the email.
?
I hadn't realized that the Makerfaire parent corporation, Maker Media, has folded. Unfortunately, this means that the future of Maker Faires, including the big one in San Francisco, may not take place.
Hopefully, someone will take up where they left off, it really is a wonderful event.

Yes. I saw the cancelation last night on Facebook and I had heard that Make was folding. I was hoping that the Ottawa faire would still go forward.
I was looking forward to meeting you and discussing robots and such. Guess this will have to wait for another day. Every blue moon or so, I get to Montreal. If an occasion comes up I'll let you know and maybe we can meet for a coffee.

ARDVARC has taken a back seat to my daughter's wedding, but I hope to provide an update in about a months time. In the mean time I've bent my maker skills to some carpentry, and as assistant candy flower maker. Pics to follow.
