Greetings. I'm a brand new member as of this morning.
I am a retired software developer, with a degree in mathematics, and (later in life) a law degree. I loved computer programming, hated practicing law. Before my B.Sc. in math I did a college technical program in electronics. The electronics education was so long ago that digital electronics was barely covered - it was the early days of TTL chip availability.
A few years ago I decided to take up woodworking so that I could make some musical instruments - guitars, percussion, etc. This pursuit has moved along rather slowly, mostly because I move a lot slower than I did when younger. I have a rather good shop setup, having spent far too much money on woodworking tools and gadgets.
Last year I developed some respiratory problems from wood dust. This led me to construct some air quality sensors based on a design from Superhouse.tv, using the ESP8266 and a particulate matter sensor (PMS5003). I also made some beefy HEPA air cleaners. As a result, my dormant interest in electronics was awakened. It occurred to me that I could combine electronics, and in particular microcontrollers with my musical instrument construction. I recently added an entry level 3D printer to my arsenal, to make enclosures and other woodworking-related tools.
So far I have found dronebot workshop to be one of the most instructive sites on YouTube. An added bonus is that Bill is a fellow Canuck 🙂
I have a friend who has COPD and am always alert to anything that might help her enjoy a better quality of life.
