What's better ? 2 wheel drive, 4 wheel drive, or tank treads ?

I have a bumpy living room (lab) , throw rugs, door sills, cables, bricks, etc. What is better for getting a little robot around ? I can get a tank tread chassis driven by just 2 motors, 2 wheel drive chassis (but how do I steer the other set of wheels ?) or a 4 wheel drive chassis (but it uses lots more battery power). What do you think ?

I am assuming you are going for a smallish build...

For the environment you describe, tank tracks will be the best. You will get the most power to traction from treads for a two-motor setup.

Agreed. Just don't do what I did and spend a week 3D printing 72 individual tread links along with a chassis

If I had to do it all again, I'd just spend $80 on a tank chassis that comes with treads and 2 motors

The only issue I've run into with that setup is making it go in a straight line with a joystick, or, rather, TWO joysticks. One for left track, and another for right track

Spinning, on the other hand, is pretty easy

Yes. I'm thinking about 30 cm long, 20 cm wide.

Tank tread options as popular kits are zumo and devastator.

Zumo is really small (but cute). I don't think it will hold all the sensors and power supplies.

Devastator is big, but is kind of menacing.

Yep. I am only thinking off-the-shelf
