It's kind of funny, I own this forum yet I couldn't figure out which section to put this post in!

😎

As many of you know there has been a bug on the DroneBot Workshop website with the code display, users were not able to highlight code or to use the toolbar to change the display or open it in a new window.

I've spent the last few hours working on this and I believe it has been repaired (it was a Javascript minification issue for anyone who is interested).Β  I've tried it with a few different browsers on Linux, Windows, and Mac and it now seems to work for me.

I was hoping to convince a few of you to give it a test and confirm that it is now working.

Here is what to do:

  1. Clear your browser cache! This is critical!
  2. Go to the DroneBot Workshop Website.
  3. Visit one of the articles with code, for example, this one from last weekend.
  4. Scroll down to one of the code samples, like this one.
  5. See if you can now highlight the code. The top toolbar on the code display should also work when you hover over it with your mouse and the verticle scroll bar at the bottom should also function.

Β

Again, you MUST clear your cache before trying this, otherwise, the old minified Javascript will still be in your cache and it won't work.

  • On Linux and Windows you can clear the cache with CTRL-F5.
  • On Mac try Command-Shift-R - you can also hold down the Shift key and press the "refresh" button on your browser.

Β

Please let me know if this is working for you.

Thank You

Bill

I was able to copy and paste the code into my text editor and all the buttons on the top row were visible and functioned as expected when clicked on!Β  I however saw no vertical scroll bar at the bottom.

Hi Steve

Thanks so much for testing.Β

The scroll bar should appear on sketches that have code that exceeds the width of the editor, like the 7-segment display one I linked to (line #20 to be specific).Β  Β It should appear when you hover your mouse at the bottom of the code display to allow you to scroll the code to see the end of the line.Β

Is that not happening on your side?

Well, obviously I need to learn how to use my own forum a little better!Β  I originally put this post in a section that only administrators could reply to, which is why Codecage was able to reply.

I have now moved it. Thank you to both Raj and Pugwash for setting me straight!

And another thing, when I said "verticle scrollbar" I probably meant "horizontal scrollbar"! The one that appears at the bottom of the code.

If I was superstitious I'd blame the fact it's Friday the 13th, but as I have no problem carrying a black cat while walking under a ladder that isn't the excuse.Β Β Not sure why I'm so scatterbrained today.

I had only scrolled down to the first code section using your first link was why I didn't see the horizontal scroll bar.Β  There was a long enough line to warrant a scroll bar.Β  In the code section further down I was able to see a code section that displayed the scroll bar.Β  It worked fine.

I couldn't copy the code before.Β  I tried it just now and it works just fine, and I didn't need to clear the cache.Β  I just went straight to the website and it's working now.Β  So that's cool.

Maybe a community discussion forum?

Maybe a community discussion forum?

Is that a suggestion for a new Forum section Casey? It actually might be a good one to have!

Excellent, thanks for testing it.Β  Looks like I actually repaired it.

I did clear all of the webserver caches, that probably reset the cache expiry header and therefore didn't require you to clear your cache. That's great, as it should then work for everyone.

Now the NEXT step is to try and get those Forum upgrades and fixes working, tried last week but had to back out as they messed up the front page.Β

No no no! 🖐️Β

The NEXT step is to make a DB1 motor control video. 👍Β

Then you can go play with your forum toy. 🤣Β

That is the idea.Β  A kind of social section which could also be a place for off topic posts on things like the Coronavirus πŸ™‚Β  These posts perhaps could be deleted after a certain amount of time?
