@joelyddon

I love tinkercad circuit simulator, I hope they expand it.

The code building blocks are great too.

No such thing as too much energy, it's just un-utilised potential.

Thanks again to everyone who provided guidance and/or encouragement to me. I am back from vacation now and the PCBs were waiting for me when I arrived home.  I now have a working version of my project and would certainly do some things differently next time but I think it turned out OK for a first attempt by a noob.

More importantly, this project gave me some confidence in tackling the next one where I hope to gain even more experience.

Thanks again to all!

Hi, I am a beginner in this too. And like you, I try to find my own way to realize what is best for me.

So far, I started to rebuild some of the examples that Bill showed in his tutorials. To get a feeling for that.
Until now, I made up a little workaround that I also use for developing software.

- Make yourself a plan. What is it you want to reach.
Describe it with simple words or drawing. It needs time - I know - but it help you to sort out your
      thoughts.

- Build your circuit on a Breadboard to test whether your thoughts are right or even wrong

- I use Fritzing from https://fritzing.org/download/
if you already used to your software, keep it. Fritzing let you design Breadboard, professional plan and also
the circuit for PCBs. I tried others too, but this one I like most.

- About soldering on a standard PCB with holes I found it is somehow difficult and needs some practical experiences. So it depends on your quiet hands, whether you successful or not. For me it works on little circuit boards with few parts only. But for the big ones, I prefer a professional PCB.

Back to Fritzing...

it is sure somehow tricky, but you'll find out. My first trial was a mess, because I didn't take care for the sizes of different parts. But nevertheless, I was proud anyway to held it in my hand because it just looks professional and it is much more easy to solder. Fritzing is connected with a German company named "aisler.net"
They are doing a good job and they are fast. Ordered on Friday night, arrived next week on Thurday.
So far I know, they produce in Europe and US as well. And communication is in English.

If I am not here, then I am most probably somewhere else
