I thought I would add this to the information provided in the episode as Bill touched on the subject of switches in an explosive environment.
Generally, in the home, there would be no need for extra protection, but if you build a device that was sitting the garage, for example, where there was a possibility of petrol or gas fumes, explosion protection i.e. Ex rated devices would be highly advisable.
I have attached a document explaining the Ex ratings, marked on any explosion protected device.
