A nice little camera seems to be pixy2 but although the blurb says it can recognize shapes I can't find any demos showing that in action?  All I see is it classifying objects by color.  It can analyse lines drawn on the floor to follow and read simple bar codes.

As it appears pixy2 can output raw pixel data so  then other types of processing could be added to its repertoire providing it can be interfaced to the computer language being used,

As far as I can tell it cannot see objects rather it can only group together connected pixels of a similar color and treat that as an "object".  Thus in Bill's example it doesn't see a flash light it sees a group of blue pixels and the golf ball is a group of yellow pixels.  It returns the coordinates of a rectangle around each group of color pixels and calls that an "object".  Now in the case of the flash light a robot would need to know its 3d shape and orientation in space to pick it up properly.  A ball is a special case because it is symmetrical from all points of view.
